Breast Cancer Stages

Early Stage(2)

In Early Breast Cancer, the cancer cells are confined to the breast and may or may not have spread to the lymph nodes.
Locally Advanced Stage(2)
In Locally Advanced Breast Cancer, the cancer cells may have spread to lymph nodes in the armpit, or surrounding tissue near the breast. The cancer has also yet to spread to other parts of the body.
Metastatic Stage(2)
In Metastatic Breast Cancer, the cancer cells have spread beyond the breast to other parts of the body. There is currently no cure for this type of advanced breast cancer.

Know more about each stage

In Early Breast Cancer (eBC), the cancer cells are confined to the breast and may or may not have spread to the lymph nodes.(2)
The majority of breast cancer diagnoses are made in the early stages of the disease.(3) Early Breast Cancer includes stage I, stage IIA and stage IIB (early). Diagnosed and treated in the early setting, breast cancer is potentially curable.(2) In treating eBC, the aim is to prevent the disease from returning or developing into Advanced Breast Cancer.

Locally Advanced Breast Cancer is the most advanced stage of breast cancer that is potentially still curable through a combination of surgery, radiation and systemic therapy. Breast cancers are considered LABC if they are large, have affected adjacent tissue such as the skin or underlying muscles and/or affected several surrounding lymph nodes. This cancer has not spread beyond the breast / surrounding LN.(4)

In Metastatic Breast Cancer, the cancer cells have spread beyond the breast and surround lymph nodes to other parts of the body such as the lungs, liver, bones, brain etc.(5)
Depending on the subtype of metastatic breast cancer, there are several treatment options which are aimed to helping patients live as long as possible whilst maximizing their quality of life.(5)
